Hubs and I were having a very frank conversation today about motherhood, its demands, and how easy it is to “lose” oneself in the process. Add pregnancy and SAHM life to the mix and you have…me.

While I was never on the cutting edge of fashion, I’d like to think I had a cute, unique style. Nails were painted once a week religiously (I just love the way they look painted!). At the bare minimum, I always had eyeliner and some lipstick on. My hair and teeth were clean. I looked like I cared about my personal appearance. Waaaaaaay back in the day, I even sported high heels! I looked good but more importantly, I felt good.

Fast forward a few years later…

I have become THAT MOM. The mom I promised myself I’d never become. She who sometimes misses a shower or two. Or goes to the grocery store in two different shoes. The mom who lives in leggings and raggedy t-shirts…who looks tired and haggard and doesn’t give a hoot.

The thing is…I do care. I just haven’t cared enough to do anything about it. Mama is tired. And quite honestly, I’ve been so focused on Nugget and nailing this parenting and SAHM gig and pregnancy thing that I haven’t paid much attention to myself.

Well. That has got to stop. Now.

So, ladies. Here are my thoughts on How to Get My ‘Sexy’ Back:

1. Take a shower.

Some of you may be laughing or saying, “Well…DUH.” but I’m dead serious. As well intentioned as most of us are, there are days when a shower may or may not have been missed. Come on, admit it! You’ve been guilty too. A shower does WONDERS for the soul though! (Not to mention the body.) Extra points for fun soaps or scrubs and some lotion or perfume afterwards. My personal favorites:

Method Refreshing Body Wash, Sweet Water

This smells SO amazing!!

If you have time for a nice hot bath, soak yourself in this. Heavenly!

2. Wash hair.

If you’re like me, your hair gets super dry if you wash it daily. So I wash mine every other day or every 2 days. But…what a glorious feeling it is when I do wash it! I haven’t splurged in a while (because…$$$) but when I do, I *LOVE* this shampoo and conditioner set.

3. Style hair.

My hair du jour is 99.999% in an unkempt bun on the top of my head. Once in a while, I could: a) blow dry it (WHATTTTTT?); b) straighten it; c) curl it; d) brush it. I’m serious about the brushing, since I rarely do. I think taking the time to style my hair will make me feel pretty!

4. Do face.

Whatever your normal regimen is for your face, do it…then add something new or different. I’m pretty simple when it comes to my face. I wash it in the shower with soap, lather on some Ponds cream, scribble a little eyeliner and lip gloss on and…voila! When I take the time to apply eye shadow and mascara…I am amazed. Why do I not wear mascara more often?!!

5. Wear clothes that fit…now.

I am guilty of being a chronic dieter, yo-yoer, and fitness dabbler. I’ll try this, try that…do this for a while…do that for a while…Meanwhile, my weight and sizes are all over the place. I need to wear clothes that fit me right now, this minute. Not in a year or a month or after I have the baby or after I lose the baby weight. RIGHT NOW. I’m guilty of keeping clothes around and wearing clothes that don’t quite fit right.

6. On that note…go shopping.

I don’t mean go on a crazy shopping spree. I mean, go and buy 2 or 3 things that actually fit and make me feel cute and pretty. It will take time and money to replace my leggings and t’s…but I can start small with a few pieces.

7. Do nails.

I am definitely a manicure girl. (But I don’t like other people doing my nails…I’d rather do them myself.) It’s amazing how a little splash of color on my fingers and toes can make me feel pretty!

8. Move it.

So far, I’ve only focused on my outer appearance. I’ve found that even something as simple as taking a 10 minute walk around the block makes me feel better. It’ so important to move my body and get the heart pumping and the blood flowing.

9. Do something happy.

It has been forevvvvvvvver since I’ve played the piano or picked up a crochet hook or read a book! I’d love to do something that reminds me of my former self. She’s still there, somewhere…

10. Spend some quality time with the Hubs.

In this crazy journey called ‘parenthood’, Hubs and I rarely have time…alone time, time to relax, time in general. (Read on to find ways to reconnect with your hubby.) I’d love to get dolled up, wear one of my new outfits, and go out for a nice dinner! That should restore my sexy.
