Fall is undoubtedly my favorite season of the year. Besides the fact that my birthday is in October, I love the colors, the crisp air, the slowing down in preparation for winter…and, of course, the pumpkin spice!
Making collage using things we find outdoors is a fun and relatively inexpensive way to enjoy nature with the kiddos. So…let’s make an autumn nature collage!
For our collage, we used the following supplies:
2Pack 4x6 Shadow Box Frame HD Glass Wooden White Hollow Photo Frame,White Frames for Flower Pressing, Seashell Display Box ,Pet Memorial Shadow Box ( 2Pack 4X6)
Mod Podge Gloss Sealer, Glue & Finish: All-in-One Craft Solution- Quick Dry, Easy Clean, for Wood, Paper, Fabric & More. Non-Toxic - Craft with Confidence, Made in USA, 16 oz., Pack of 1

And that’s it! The rest of the materials are up to you and your kids. We used a combination of leaves, sticks, seeds, and flowers. The possibilities are endless. The kids enjoyed exploring outside and gathering the different materials.

Of course, the teacher and homeschooling mama in me looks for all the different offshoots from this activity:

  • art—–> color wheel, warm colors, cool colors, colors in different languages, art using the colors we found in nature, making the collage
  • math ——> counting the items, categorizing them, looking for Fibonacci sequence, graphing
  • science ——> why do leaves change color, study of the different plants we found, what happens during autumn
  • language arts ——–> listing the items we found, make a word search, create a scavenger hunt for next time, write a poem, write in journal, write a story

Hope you enjoy this quick and easy nature-inspired activity!

Happy crafting,
